What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a non surgical, non invasive treatment option for patients suffering from chronic conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy.
During Shock Wave treatment a probe (like a hammer) is placed on the skin and moved around the area of concern. It is designed to cause acute trauma to the area by increasing blood flow & breaking down scar tissue, which then stimulates tissue regeneration and accelerates healing.
There may be a slight discomfort or pain during the treatment, (depending on your pain threshold) however, the treatment only lasts about five minutes, therefore most patients are able to tolerate this.
How many treatments of Shockwave Therapy do I need?
Most patients who are being treated chronic conditions usually need to have between 3 - 6 sessions, however this can vary greatly depending on the severity and duration of the condition being treated.
What are the side effects of Shockwave therapy?
There are virtually no side effects reported from receiving shockwave therapy, apart from the intensity of the pain during the session.
*At this time shockwave therapy is not advised while pregnant - if you are please let us know.
